What is a Student Liaison Officer (SLO) Appointment?

A Student Liaison Officer (SLO) Appointment is a type of appointment held by trained Student Liaison Officers within the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team.

SLO appointments are designed to offer a safe and supportive space to any students who have experienced abuse, harassment, bullying, hate incidents, domestic violence and/or sexual violence.

The purpose of an SLO appointment is to ensure you are aware of your options (with no pressure or judgment) and to help you get support from the right people where needed.

Support options could look like:

  • support to formally report an incident including internal or external reporting
  • access to mental health and wellbeing support
  • connecting with external support services
  • liaison with course team (at wish of student)
  • supported extenuating circumstances without the need to re-explain or disclose confidential or traumatising information to another team

The appointments are confidential within the service. The only reason information would need to be shared is if deemed there is a danger to yourself or others, or if there is a legal duty to report.
