What is LSBU’s policy on late submissions?

At LSBU, we really want to see all of our students’ work – so we’ve put together a procedure to help make sure that you can submit it, even if problems arise. Deadlines are important for helping you keep track of your learning, so you should always manage your time to meet them.

However, we understand that there may be times when you’re not able to submit your work by the deadline due to circumstances outside of your control. If you need extra time to submit your assessments, for any reason, we don’t want you to feel like you can’t submit it at all, so students are able to submit (some) coursework assignments up to 5 working days after the published deadline date and time with no penalty applied to your academic mark.

Where a Late Submission is not possible, this will be noted in the assessment brief on Moodle and could include assignments such as lab practical’s, group work, presentations and OCSE’s but this is not an exhaustive list.

Please note your work will be marked as late but no penalty will be applied.

Late submission is not allowed on exams or any practical exams taken in exam weeks and/or exam conditions.

Above all – talk to us
This inclusive procedure is here to support students who are struggling with a variety of challenging and unexpected circumstances and just need that extra day or two to submit.

The deadline is the official date you should be submitting your work, and we strongly recommend that you work to that deadline.  There is lots of support available if you need it and we encourage you to reach out to those support services if needed.

Please see FAQ for I am a student registered with Disability and Dyslexia Support (DDS), do I need to apply for my late submission?

For more info, you can read the full Late Submission and Extenuating Circumstances Notification Procedure document in the Policies & Procedures section of the LSBU site.

Example 1:

Your deadline as is on Wednesday 13th November at 5pm. The very last day you are allowed to submit is Wednesday 20th November at 5pm.

If you submit after this date/time your work will be considered a non-submission and you will receive a mark of zero.

Example 2:

Your deadline is on Monday 28th April at 1pm. Monday 5th May is a Bank Holiday so the very last day you are allowed to submit is Tuesday 6th May at 1pm.

If you submit after this date/time your work will be considered a non-submission and you will receive a mark of zero.
